Sony’s Meen (Fish) Cutlets

My friend Sony from Kerela makes these MEAN fish cutlets, which I believe, are magical – they never get over! I mean that in a good way, btw… lol.. she makes them all the time! Anyway, ‘meen’ means ‘fish’ in Malayalam – Sony’s native langauge from the Indian state of Kerela.

PrepTime 20mins – Serves 6 – CookTime 10mins

Ingredients:

2 cans white meat tuna flakes
2 large potatoes – boiled, skinned & mashed
1/2 tsp red chili pwd
1/2 tsp haldi pwd
1/2 tsp jeera pwd
1 tsp pepper pwd
salt to taste
1 egg
1 cup bread crumbs
oil for deep frying

Cooking Instructions:

Mix & mash the above ingds together (other than the oil) and shape into neat balls rolling them in your palms.
Coat them evenly with the beaten egg, followed by bread crumbs.
Deep-fry them in heated oil & allow to drain on paper towels before serving with ketchup.

Tip: Instead of deep frying, you can shallow fry them but in this case, shape them into flat cutlets, not globular ones.
