Aloo Keema (Minced meat with potatoes)

This has always been my go-to recipe when I have some minced meat & very litle time to do something with it… Its quick, easy & yummy enough to save for later, to make samosas, puffs, cutlets or pies with.. hmm!!

PrepTime 5mins – CookTime 20mins – Serves 4

1/2 kg minced meat
2 medium potatoes – cubed
1 chopped medium onion
1″ cinnamon stick
1/2 tsp garlic-ginger paste
2-3 bay leaves
2-3 dried red chilies
1/2 tsp cumin/jeera pwd
1 tsp pepper pwd
1/2 tsp turmeric pwd
1/2 tsp garam masala
1-2 tbsp vinegar
1-2 sprigs curry leaves
salt to taste

Cooking Instructions:

Heat oil & fry the onions to a light pink.
Add the whole spices & cook for a minute.
Add the powder spices, G-G paste & salt – fry well.
Add the mince & stir well. Cook covered for 2-3 mins & then continue to break the lumps.
Add the potatoes, curry leaves & vinegar – stir well, cover & simmer until the meat & potatoes are done, about 8-10mins.

Add the cumin seeds & chilies and cook for a minute on low heat.
Add the turmeric pwd, garlic/ginger paste – stir for a few seconds & add washed daal.
Fry well for a minute & then add the tomatoes & some salt
Toss in the gourd/tourai, curry leaves, curry leaves, peas, grated coconut & 2 tbsp water.
Mix around, cover & cook for 10 mins, tossing in between, until the gourd & daal cook well. (In a pressure cooker, you would cook on high heat for 1 whistle only; no need to simmer)
Serve hot with rotis or as a side to daal-rice, rajma-chawal, etc.
