Nutty Mushroom Masala

Recently, in one of my experimental moods, I threw some basic spices, nuts & mushroom bits together & made this quick dish, only to be amazed by how something SO quick & easy could be SO delicious & satisfying!




PrepTime 12mins – CookTime 8mins – Serves 4




1 cup chopped mushrooms
4 tbsp oil
1/2 cup roasted shelled peanuts
1/2 tsp red chili pwd
1/4 tsp turmeric pwd
1 tbsp coriander pwd
1/4 tsp garam masala pwd
1/4 tsp garlic pwd (or 3 crushed garlic cloves)
salt to taste
1/4 tsp pepper pwd
4 tbsp dessicated coconut (optional)
2 sprigs curry leaves

Cooking Instructions

1. Grind the peanuts (& coconut) with some water to a coarse, nutty paste. (Or a smooth paste, as you like).
2. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan & fry all the spices in it for 1 minute on medium heat.
3. Add the paste & fry well for 2 minutes or till the oil separates.
4. Add the curry leaves & mushrooms & stir well.
5. Add very little water, cover and cook till the mushroom bits are cooked.
6. Serve with hot rotis or dosas or as a side to your main course.
