Masala Chai

A famous street drink of tea (chai) with certain flavorful condiments for a flavor burst!




PrepTime 2mins – CookTime 5mins – Serves 1





1.25 cup water
1/2 tsp tea leaves
1/2 inch ginger
1 cardamom/ 1/2 tsp cardamom pwd
1-2 tsp sugar
1/4″ cinnamon stick or 1/4 tsp cinnamon pwd
2 tbsp condensed milk (unsweetened)
2-3 dried rose petals/ 2-3 drops rose water

Cooking Instructions:

1. Boil water & add all ingredients other than milk, simmer for 2 minutes.

2. In the cup, pour out the tea and then add milk little by little till you get the right color of your choice – The idea is to not let the milk out-taste the tea flavor.

3. Try pouring the tea from 1 cup to another starting near-by & gradually distancing as you pour all the tea out – Repeat a few times to aerate the drink & make it light & frothy – Else use a mini froth-maker.

4. If you use full cream milk, then boil 1/2 cup of this with 1cup water & all the remaining ingredients, then simmer until you reach your desired consistency color before pouring out.


Tip: You can add 1 clove or 2 peppercorns to the boiling tea if you have a cold/ flu.
